The OnePlus 6 will be yet another smartphone would embrace the notch screen, but with more thought and care than the other Android-based manufacturers that have adopted it.
Every manufacturer is trying to hard to maximise the screen surface on their devices by expanding out to the edges as much as possible. Apple did it, Essential did it, Vivo did it, and now OnePlus seems to go for it as well. The notch is important to OnePlus for maximising screen real estate, said OnePlus CEO Carl Pei, indicating the next OnePlus offering will sport the display notch.
Things are getting tough at the top of the smartphone game, and where OnePlus used to have a dedicated place as the ‘low cost, great spec’ smartphone, that position is increasingly under threat from other brands.
The OnePlus 6 is set to replace the OnePlus 5T, which was already one of the more impressive phones of 2017, finally bringing the longer display that was so fashionable among the other big brands, as well as improvements to the camera.
Speaking with The Verge, OnePlus’ CEO, Carl Pei, confirmed that the upcoming Android handset will include the 3.5mm connection. As a niche Android phone maker with a dedicated user base, including the 3.5mm jack, will play well with OnePlus owners looking to upgrade, which is why it makes perfect sense to keep a much loved – soon to be gone – feature.
Carl Pei also said that the notch will be narrower than on the iPhone X because it won’t include all the same sensors.
